Just like the tale of the Loch Ness Monster roaming the waters of Scotland, stories of another sea monster have haunted sailors for centuries. Legend has it that enormous creatures with powerful tentacles attack ships at sea. Yet, beyond the stories of a few drunken sailors, there was no proof that these mysterious creatures existed. Then in late 1873, Reverend Moses Harvey of Newfoundland, Canada photographed a dead giant squid, which he bought from a fisherman who caught it by chance. Since giant squid live in the deepest, unexplored parts of the ocean, they are only seen when their dead bodies turn up on shore. A team of scientists has recently filmed a three-meter-long squid alive and in its natural habitat. After more than a decade of searching for the giant squid, the team is thrilled about their find and being able to share it with the whole world.
